WHAT IS PSYCHOTHERAPY?

Psychotherapy is a collaboration with a psychotherapist to develop a sustained interest in an inner life and a relational life.

With respect for the complexity of human (psychological) problems and their uniquely subjective meaning and function for each person, the “work” of psychotherapy fosters a curiosity about ourselves, our histories, our relational patterns, our ways of thinking, of managing stress and loss, our behaviors and beliefs, and our interactions in the world.  Questions like--why do I do the things I do? Choose to be involved with this type of person? React to stress or loss in this way? Why am I stuck? Sad? Empty feeling?--help us cultivate insight and the capacity for informed change.
